Law Firm Blog Marketing: Stop Blog Dumping

Blog Dumping:
Every day when I log into LinkedIn, there are always a few notifications waiting for me, letting me know who has published a new post, among other things. I’m always shocked though, when I read that a single person has published 47 new posts. The reason is: why would you put 47 posts up all at once? Sure, if you put them up on your website your pages can be indexed sooner and your keywords will be indexed sooner for Google as well, but why would I then click on the notification to read your post? If you publish more than 1 post at a time, the title won’t appear, and viewers won’t want to read your material. Instead of sporadically posting all of your material at once, why not try to put a blog up daily, and keep a reliable audience of readers who know that you will post an article once every day?
Blog Marketing:
I will be the first to commend you on your blogging efforts, and will usually read whatever posts are in my timeline during some free time at night or in the morning, but blog marketing is supposed to be a daily update, not a dumping of your material, and here are my reasons why:
- It’s fairly obvious to readers that these 47 posts could not have all been written by you, so they might not want to read your material after feeling lied to. This is even true if you really did write all these posts yourself, because skepticism will always take place on the internet.
- I don’t want to read 47 posts all at once! I might want to read what you say for about 500 words, not 20,000. If you post one thing per day, you will make a reliable reader out of me, your other viewers, and a potentially new audience when they see your recurring posts.
- Blog marketing is about recurring viewers – not a one-time reader that you hit over the head with dozens of material. If you market your blog slowly, and gain a large audience, you have a higher propensity to have daily recurring visitors!
Here are my suggestions to keep your blog marketing efforts on the right track:
Schedule a Blog Marketing Calendar:
If you have 47 posts, spread them out! You can do one per day, maybe even once in the morning and once in the afternoon, but make sure that you don’t just publish a lot at the beginning of the month and assume that people will return to your website to read one post per day – they won’t. Set reminders for yourself – even using Google calendar is a free way to remind yourself to post every day!
Plan Your Blog’s Message:
Sometimes I see people publishing a new post called, “Thoughts for the day.” To be honest, I don’t know if anyone reads those posts. Make sure that your blog has a theme, has an audience, and has a clear message from the title, through the end of the post that your viewers can ascertain. If your message is unclear, viewers will not want to dig for meaning!
Your Blog should be written for your viewers, not for you. Make it helpful!
