Web Traffic and Virtual Billboards

I always find it funny that visitors and readers on a website are called traffic, because it reminds me of being stuck on a highway, among thousands of cars in a bustling commute, staring at various billboards for lack of anything better to do. In a way, traffic is the perfect metaphor for all the web users who visit your website, because your website is the billboard they have come to stare at, and search engines are the highway in which we active consumers are finding the billboards. For this reason, since busy users will soon reach you in their search, it is important to make sure that your website is the captivating, informative, and reachable source that will result in a connection between you and the consumer. Well written content on authoritative sites, with an established history on Google, will eventually grow your reach, metaphorically growing the size of your billboard, for more commuters stuck in traffic, to easily read.
Building a Virtual Billboard
It is imperative that your website leaves a lasting first impression on viewers. This does not mean it has to look like an IMAX movie, but make sure the landing page is clean, has relevant content, and has a Call to Action.
What I mean by clean is, don’t clutter your landing page with high quality images and hard to read text. A good background and a featured image is enough to catch the eye of your reader. A qualified web developer can advise you on how to arrange your images.
Relevant content includes letting your potential customers know why you are the best choice for them.
- Inform them about the issues: Relevant content means factual information that users want to see. If a user searches for information on Divorce Law and is directed to your site because of a high rank, but does not encounter the information he/she was looking for, he/she will “bounce” from the site.
- Let them know you are the expert in the field: New customers don’t know you yet, and establishing yourself as the authority on the subject they need information on puts the potential client at ease about hiring you.
- Include a Call to Action! Encourage potential customers to act now by using phrases like, “Call Now!” “Don’t wait, schedule a free consultation!” or “Click to learn more!” These phrases encourage users to act now, rather than putting off the ordeal entirely, and maybe finding someone in else in the process!
There are a multitude of ways to rank higher organically for search, and contacting an SEO Content professional can help you achieve a high rank for search terms relevant to your business. However, make sure that even with your increased rank, users find what they are looking for when they happen upon your website!
